The
project mp3query at sourceforge
Who is
using mp3query at the moment?
mp3query development
ends when?
-- Last update 8 March 2002
This page
intends to give a short overview of the mp3query project, namely answer
to basic questions like:
Other specific questions will be answered later, as this project is nearly in the beginning.
As this is the first page for this project, please do not expect too much. I promise this http://mp3query.sourceforge.net/ page will be better in a couple of months.
As you see, mp3query is present at sourceforge for obvious reasons – everyone knows that this is the ultimate state of the art for the GPL software. Personally I think http://sourceforge.net is the best development centre in the net!
No copyrights from the MP3 standards are threatened by this project, as this project does not deal with the music itself, but only with the tags in it.
mp3query intends to be the source code for collecting / extracting / inserting correct ID3Vx tags, by re-using existing libraries (such as those provided by http://id3lib.sourceforge.net/), re-inventing C++ comprehensive code for dealing with MP3 tags.
Additionally I would like to create code for distributed MP3-tag servers. Not just another CDDB server, because those servers have a short flexibility. These servers would be trustworthy in the sense that they would store only liable data regarding the MP3 files.
No. mp3query
is only a set of C++ programs to deal with MP3 tags.
No one uses
mp3query at the moment. The project has barely started.
Let’s give an example: you like to download MP3 files from AudioGalaxy (http://www.audiogalaxy.com). You have thousands of files downloaded into your hard disk. But you might wonder: Is this a damaged file? Does this title match with the author? What was the year this music came up?
With mp3query you could not only extract all the information you possibly can from the file itself, but also ask a MP3-tag server.
Currently I
am developing mp3tag in Linux SUSE 6.4 (http://www.suse.de/en/),
the language is C++.
Hot topics:
The state
of the art is as follows.
This
release will certainly have few bugs, and should allow ID3V2 tags.
Scheduled
for May/June 2002.
You’d
better ask when it has started: the project itself started in January 2002.
I’ll be
glad to finish the ymp3tag by the end of this year.
Please hang-on
for more news.
